Virginia Mae "Ginny" Gibbs Buckhannon, a cherished resident of Pt. Pleasant, WV, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on July 26, 1935, in Hartford, WV, Ginny lived a life filled with love, dedication, and service to her community.
Ginny worked as a cook for Mason County Schools, where she spent 25 years preparing meals with care and love alongside her older sister, Elzanna. A proud graduate of Wahama High School in Mason, WV, Ginny also completed beauty school after retiring from her school position, demonstrating her unending drive for personal growth and achievement.
Virginia was predeceased by her first husband, William "Bill" Gibbs, and her second husband, the late Dave Buckhannon. She is survived by her beloved son, Timothy "Tim" Gibbs and his wife, Brenda McCarty. Ginny was preceded in death by her sister, Elzanna Lucille Johnson Fields, her brother-in-law Floyd "Ray" Fields, and their daughter Debra Ranee Fields Young McNeely. She also mourned the recent loss of her brother, Thomas Middleton Johnson Sr., who passed away on May 13, 2024.
Ginny is survived by her sister-in-law, Barbara "Bobby" Johnson of Mason, WV; her nephew, Lyndon Ray Fields and his wife Peggy Fields of Barboursville, WV; and her niece, Rebecca "Becky" Jane Fields Chow, her husband Wendell Chow, and their children Jet, Ace, and Van of Cupertino, CA. She also leaves behind her grandniece, Alexandra Anne Young Woods, her husband Josh Woods, and their children Lincoln, Logan, and Madison of Ashton, WV.
Ginny's life was enriched by her dear friend and cousin, Sally Roush of Pt. Pleasant, WV, and many other friends and loved ones who will miss her deeply. Known for her kind heart, ornery nature, and love for shopping, enjoying summer, and dining out, Ginny was a mother and "Aunt Gin" to many. Her warm presence and loving spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Genesis Putnam Center, CAMC Teays Valley ER, CAMC Memorial, and Hospice Care for their compassionate care.
Funeral services will be held at Deal Funeral Home in Pt. Pleasant, WV, on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at 1 PM with Pastor Donnie Dye officiating. Friends may visit the funeral home on Saturday from noon to 1 PM, prior to the service.
We will forever cherish the memories of Ginny's kind heart and spirited nature. We were truly blessed to have known her.
