Sammie C. Jeffers, a beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2024, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on April 27, 1947, in Mason County, West Virginia, to the late James Lewis Jeffers and Janie Scarberry Jeffers. He lived a life filled with love, kindness, and resilience, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Sammie was a proud graduate of Hannan High School, Class of 1966. Shortly after graduation, he answered the call of duty and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968, where he bravely endured the TET Offensive. His service earned him several honors, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal. His commitment to his country was a testament to his character and dedication.
In his professional life, Sammie was known for his skilled craftsmanship as a fabricator at SMC in Huntington, West Virginia. Outside of work, Sammie enjoyed hunting and gardening in his spare time.
Sammie was preceded in death by his Parents: James Lewis Jeffers and Janie Scarberry Jeffers, Son: Chris Rainey, as well as his siblings: Joe Jeffers Sr., James "Blackie" Jeffers, Coa Jeffers, Clayton Jeffers, Shelba Jean Robinson, Millard Jeffers, Worthy Jeffers, and Dolas Jeffers.
Sammie is survived by Donna Jeffers, his devoted wife of 43 years. Sister: Mary Ann Frazier. Children: Barbie (Lacey) Parsons, Sam II (Tracy) Jeffers, Jill Chapman of Ashton, Becky (Mark) Plants of Apple Grove, Janet (Ron) Taylor of Saint Albans, and Janie (Ahmed) Alshabassy of Huntington. Grandchildren: Brad (Ali) Watterson, Shelbie (Justin) Vance of Apple Grove, Katie (Neil) Chandler of Ashton, Zack (Anna) Parsons of Glenwood, Kayla (Aaron) Watterson, Emma Alshabassy of Huntington, Austin Rainey of Racine, and Maggie Frost of Point Pleasant. Great-Grandchildren: Kensleigh and Delilah Watterson, Lacey "Moe" Vance of Apple Grove and Sanford "Ford" Parsons of Glenwood. Sammie will be missed by many extended family and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 29, 2024, at 12:00 PM at Deal Funeral in Point Pleasant, WV with pastors Charles Dabney and Charles McCallister officiating. Burial will follow at Christy Family Cemetery in Apple Grove, WV. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm on Friday November 29, 2024. Deal Funeral Home is serving the Family.
