Obituary

LUELLA (RICKEY) MORGAN

Luella (Rickey) Morgan, 96, passed away February 11 peacefully in her sleep at home in Point Pleasant.

She was born November 6, 1924 in Clarksburg, the middle daughter of Howard and Margaret (Jamieson)Rickey. Following her graduation from Parkersburg High School, Luella earned her nursing degree from Camden Clark Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg and was employed at Pleasant Valley Hospital as a RN throughout the 1970s and 80s. Following her marriage to Billie (Bill) Morgan in 1946, she reared her sons William (Bill) born in 1947 and Rick born in 1955. As a Navy spouse she moved from Virginia to West Virginia to Rhode Island to Florida and finally settled in Point Pleasant in 1960 near the end of her husband's 20 plus year service with the US Navy.  In the early 1960s she took up golf at Hidden Valley Country Club and kept improving to the point where she was second in the club championship in 1970, the year she scored a hole-in-one on Mother's Day. She was an avid puzzler and card player, with her grandchildren well aware that they were more likely to win being paired with "Meem" than being paired with another adult.  She was a lifelong sports fan.  In retirement she loved watching three granddaughters run track for Point Pleasant High School and annually drove to New Jersey around Memorial Day to watch her youngest granddaughter play tournament soccer and her grandson play baseball.  Most recently, she had been following the exploits of her nine great grandchildren (Casey, Keaton, Eli, Kylie, Easton, Peter, Maggie, Elliot, and Nolan) and watching the various types of birds vying for a coveted spot at one of her birdfeeders.  She was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

In 1973 she lost her husband Bill, the love of her life.  She was also preceded in death by her sisters Juanita of Parkersburg and Audra of Wheeling.

Survivors include sons William (Mary) of Point Pleasant and Rick (Karen) of Kalamazoo, Michigan; grandchildren Kara of Iowa, Jayna of Ashton, Billie of Florida, Justin of Missouri and Megan of Michigan, and a niece Barbara of Maryland.

Arrangements are being handled by Deal Funeral Home.  Interment will be at Kirkland Memorial Gardens at 2:00 pm on Tuesday February 16, 2021 with Pastor Joe Nott officiating. The Nursing Honor Guard will pay a tribute to her at the graveside service.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Mason County Action Group, Inc. Meals-On-Wheels.
