Josephine "Jo" Stapleton, 94, of Point Pleasant, WV, passed away at home July 21, 2019, while surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 23, 1925, in Johnson City, KY, a daughter to the late Luther Rice, and the late Mary Gibbs Rice. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the American Legion Aux. Unit #23 of Point Pleasant, and attended Barton Chapel Church in Apple Grove, WV. She loved her dogs and cats. She especially liked sitting on her porch visiting with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Mary Rice; her loving husband George Stapleton of over 70 years; brothers, Luther Rice, Leroy Rice, Joseph Rice; and sisters, Jean McDowell, Ruth Ann Short, Nell Gallager, Gladys Martinez, and infant sister, Etta Faye Rice.

She is survived by her loving children, Georgia Anna Baker of Troy, OH, Jerry Stapleton of West Milton, OH, Bonnie Melton of Wooton, KY, Shirley (Larry) Hall of Southside, WV, Rosalie (Carter) Smith of Gallipolis Ferry, WV, Kathy Woyan of Point Pleasant, Marsha (Jim) Plants of Apple Grove, WV, Krista (Timmy) Shull of Southside, WV, Holly (Mike) Casey of Milton, WV,  sixteen grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren; and her sister Betty Scaggs of Bay City, MI. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 24, 2019, at 1 PM, at Barton Chapel Church in Apple Grove, WV, with Ronnie Long officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may visit the family at the church from 11-1 PM prior to the service. Deal Funeral Home in Point Pleasant is serving the family.
