Josephine Thomas "Tommy" Hanes went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on May 9, 2017. She was born in Point Pleasant, West Virginia on July 20, 1928. She was the daughter of Josephine and Richard Thomas. She graduated from Point Pleasant High School in 1947. She was married to Eugene Byron Hanes on September 9, 1945. She served Mason County in several positions in the Clerk's Office and as County Clerk. She was a lifelong member of Main Street Baptist Church.
Tommy was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, her husband, Gene and her beloved daughter Annette "Pooh" Hanes.
She is survived by her brother Richard (Patti) Thomas and her sister Anna "Sappy" Handley of Point Pleasant. She is survived by her children Karen (Jim) Wellman, FL, Michael (Patti) Hanes, NC, and Glynn (Patty) Hanes, TX. Surviving are her six grandchildren: Christopher (Jodi) Hanes, Rebecca (Keith) Miller, Cameron Herzog, Kathleen (Rik) Stevens, Megan (Nathan) Fox, and Elizabeth (Jeff) Weimann and her twelve-great grandchildren. She is also survived by loving nephews and nieces.
Although Tommy lived in North Carolina a number of years, West Virginia and Mason County were always her home. She dedicated her life to public service and to caring for others. She will be greatly missed by many. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Pleasant Valley Nursing Home and RHC, for the loving care they provided Tommy.
There will be a celebration of Tommy's life at the Point Pleasant Riverfront Park at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2017, with Rev, Michael Young officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the fund dear to Tommy's heart which she established in memory of her daughter, The Annette "Pooh" Hanes, Memorial Fund at City National Bank.
Family and friends will miss her but find comfort in knowing she is reunited with her loved ones and is in the presence of Jesus!
