Jean Rice (Campbell) Tarbett, 72, of Point Pleasant, WV, passed away Thursday, July 24th, 2025 at Cabell-Huntington Hospital in Huntington, WV. She was born March 28th, 1953, in Tachikawa Air Base, Tokyo, Japan to the late Robert Walker and Jean Louise (McNutt) Campbell.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 43 years, Resor W. David Tarbett. She is survived by her daughter, Megan, son Matthew (Laura), step-son Stephen (Amanda), and her grandsons Ian, Conner, and Drew. She is also survived by her sister, Robin Snyder, and brother Harvey Campbell (Ann). Additionally survived by her nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews.
Rice was a graduate of Huntington High School and Marshall University, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Art. Rice was a long-time member of the Henderson Church of Christ. She also was the recording secretary of the Tu-Endie Wei Garden Club.
Rice was born with a servant's heart and working hands. She was known for her friendliness, knowledge, and generous spirit. She served Mason County for 36 years working in the County Clerk's Office at the Mason County Courthouse. She always gave her time and expertise to anyone who needed help. She may have partially retired in 2023 but she could always be counted on to get the work done, no matter what.
Rice was loved by so many and her loss will be felt near and far. She was a burst of sunlight and a flower as bright as in the gardens she loved. The Tarbett family appreciates the heartfelt condolences.
Arrangements are to be held at Deal Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, WV. Visitation hours will be Tuesday, July 29th from 6pm. to 8pm. The funeral service will be Wednesday, July 30th at 1pm with visitation preceding beginning at 11am. Rice will be laid to rest at the Austin-Hope-McLeod Family Cemetery in Henderson. A gathering to celebrate her will be held at the Henderson Church of Christ following burial.
