James Harrison “Joe” Mayes, age 79, of Glenwood, WV, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2026. He was born on March 29, 1947 to the late Edison and Vina Mayes. 

He was a good man who lived his life with a strong work ethic and a deep love for his family. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and someone who could always be counted on. Joe was a very hard worker who took pride in providing for and caring for those he loved.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Mary Christina Mayes. Their many years together were a testament to love, commitment, and devotion.

Joe is survived by his son, James Timothy Mayes; his sisters, Janice Stevens and Nancy Deal; his brother, Ralph Paul Mayes; and other family members and loved ones who will cherish his memory.

His funeral service will be held at Deal Funeral Home on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at 12:00 pm. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Apple Grove Memorial Gardens in Apple Grove, WV.
