Obituary

Gene Ann Peoples, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2025, at Jackson General Hospital in Ripley, West Virginia. She was born on August 31, 1945, a day that would mark the beginning of a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Gene's life spanned a beautiful 79 years, during which she touched the hearts of everyone she encountered.Gene was born to George Cottrill and Vada Cottrill (Greenlee) in Point Pleasant, WV. She was preceded in death by her parents, 1st husband David James father of Dwight, 2nd husband Robert Peoples father of Rachel, 5 precious Children who passed away before birth, and sisters Sue Enos and Judy Rymer.


Memories of Gene will forever remain a guiding light for all who knew her.
Gene was the mother to two wonderful children, Dwight (Trena)James of Ravenswood and Rachel (Josh) Searls of Southside. As a grandmother, Gene Ann found immeasurable joy in her grandchildren, Joel and Caleb Searls, Jeremiah ( Emily)James and Breanne James(Joe) McGrew. Great Grandchildren Audrey, Mason, Penny, and Jenny. She is also survived by sister, Patricia Durst. Best Friends, Debi Hoffman, Carolyn Thomas, and Cathy Searls.


A devoted homemaker, Gene poured her heart into creating a nurturing environment for her family. Her dedication to her loved ones was evident in everything she did—whether it was Canning, Gardening, or simply being there to lend a listening ear. She had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel special and valued, ensuring that her home was a sanctuary of love.
While Gene Loved to Garden and enjoyed Canning, she also enjoyed animals and Reading the Bible.
Gene Ann Peoples leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will be remembered and honored by her children Dwight and Rachel, her grandchildren, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Though she has passed into her eternal life with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the impact of her life will remain in the hearts of her family and friends.


The family would like to give a special thanks to all of the nurses and staff at Jackson General Hospital and Mountain View nursing home they both went above and beyond in caring for Gene Ann.


A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025, at Deal Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, WV at 12:00 PM. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service with Minister Cathy Searls Officiating.
