Frances Jean Newsome, 86, of Point Pleasant, WV passed away early Wednesday morning, February 10, 2021 from complications of COVID-19 at Holzer Hospital in Gallipolis, OH.

Jean was born on November 7, 1934 to Frank and Bertha (Ledson) Smith in Holden, WV.

Jean was the loving mother of Curtis "Butch" (Susie) Newsome Jr., Anita Turner, Patricia "Pat" Newsome and Gary (Staci) Newsome. She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren Stephanie (Sherman) Johnson, Becci Turner (Joey), Shawn Newsome, Todd Neville, Kelly Neville (Levi), Kara (Brian) Bellew, Andrew (Chelsey) Newsome, Bridget (Josh) Dunlap and great-grandchildren Raheem Johnson (Kayla), Skylar McCoy, Gage McCoy, Blake Henry, Brogann Henry, Cayden Cook, Alinza Bellew, Lincoln Bellew, Colton Dunlap and Grace Dunlap. Jean was especially fond of her great-great-grandchildren Azariah Johnson, Colton Tucker and Hendrix Johnson. Jean is also survived by her sisters, Leona Bailey and Barbara (Willard) Sturgill, and many nieces and nephews.

Jean truly loved her family and was the world's greatest New York Yankees fan. She was a former employee of the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., Kaiser Aluminum and Fruth's Pharmacy. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; former husband, Curtis Newsome, Sr.; brothers, Frank Smith, Jr. and Paul Smith; and sister, Joy Canterbury.

A private family service will be held Saturday February 13, 2021 with burial to follow.
