Dorothy Elizabeth Blessing, 77, of Lancaster, OH, (formerly of Mason County, WV) went home to be with the Lord December 20, 2017, in Lancaster, Ohio. She was born July 10, 1940, in Mason County, a daughter to the late Rush Robert Shirley and Mary Agnes (Durst) Shirley. She went to work on March 1, 1959, at the County Clerk's Office as a deputy clerk. She worked there from 1959 to 1965 and again from 1968 to 1972. In 1973, she moved to the Assessor's Office as chief deputy. She worked there for 24 years. The last four years she was elected Assessor. She then retired on January 1, 1997. She was also a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Chuch in Letart, WV.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Rush and Mary Shirley; her loving husband of 54 years (whom) she married in 1958, Charles William Blessing; daughter Angela Atkinson; and brother, Paul Ray Shirley.

She is survived by her son Greg (Mandy) Blessing of Lancaster, OH; brother, Albert Shirley of Ohio; sister, Faye (John) James of Ohio; grandchildren, Curtis, Cara, and Chelsea Blessing of Ohio, Arika Slater of West Virginia; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Elizabeth Slater of West Virginia, and Colin Blessing of Ohio; sister-in-laws, Peggy (Bill) Rogers of West Virginia, Evelyn Weirick of West Virginia, Dorothy Bartholemew of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all.

At Dorothy's request, there will be no public visitation. A private graveside service will be held Tuesday, December 26, 2017, at 1 PM, at Letart Evergreen Cemetery in Letart, with Pastor Patricia Weirick officiating.
