Obituary

Doris Jean Hall Blain of Point Pleasant, WV, passed away October 25, 2017, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 7, 1934, in Mason County, WV, and was the only child of Ralph and Martha Hoplite.

She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Harry F. Neville; second husband, James "Turk" Blain; three sons, Richard Neville, Timothy W. Neville, Michael Neville; and one grandson, Timothy L. Neville; and one great-grandson, Seth Charest.

Doris is survived by her son, Steve (Donna) Neville of Point Pleasant; and daughters, Deborah (Ron) Biland of China Twp, MI, Patsy (Joe) Plants of Gallipolis Ferry, WV, and Kimberly (Steve) Latino of Paducah, KY; 18 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; as well as her pet cat "Sassy" who will be going to live now with her special friends Dwayne and Bev Curffman.

Doris was a member of the Main Street Baptist Church and also attended the Christian Community Church in Point Pleasant. Throughout her life Doris has worked at many different places. Some are: Gene Ball's Restaurant here in Point Pleasant, a former cook at Scenic Hills Nursing Home in Gallipolis, OH, where she also received the Employee Of The Month award, Pleasant Valley Nursing Home, and Carehaven Nursing Home. She also owned and operated the Shamrock in Henderson, WV, where she served many local farmers and business people and other locals many fine "home cooked" meals. She always had a pot of coffee ready and enjoyed talking with her patrons. In the 1980's she was the manager, and also cooked for a Greek restaurant here in Point Pleasant called the Olympia. At age 75 Doris retired but not for long. She decided to open up a small sandwich shop located on Viand Street in Point Pleasant called Doris's Place, but she decided her customers needed more than just sandwiches so she added a "Daily Special" and several deserts. She again was able to enjoy talking with and serving the public. After a few years with "Doris's Place" the little shop closed and illness struck her. She continued to prove what a strong woman she was throughout her 5 1/2 year battle with lung cancer.

Special thanks to Dr. Edward Ayers and Pleasant Valley Hospice for the wonderful care they provided Doris and her loving caregivers, Diana Hall, Susan Evans, and Yvette Rodgers for all the help and love they provided during her illness. Also thanks to the many friends who stopped to visit with her on her front porch or gave a friendly honk of their horn and waved to her as they drove by.
