Southside
On Friday February 12, 2021, Charles Hayward Rawson of Southside, WV, passed from his earthly home at the age of 95 years. He was born August 20, 1925, at Southside, WV, the second son of the late Joseph "Shorty" Rawson and Evelyn Rawson. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Edith Elaine Woyan Rawson; two brothers, Ralph Rawson and William "Bill" Rawson; brother in law, Don Duncan; sister in law, Donna Rawson; and nephew, Joey Rawson.
He leaves behind his loving daughter and caregiver, Mary Blanche Rawson; brother, George Allan (Ann) Rawson; sisters, Frankie Duncan and Mary (Stormy) Hart; nieces, Sandy (Jody) Keefer, Tiffany (Sean) Ferguson, and Tammy (David) Morrison; nephews, Mike (Cindy) Rawson, David (Anna) Rawson, and Troy Duncan.
Charles graduated from Point Pleasant High School in 1944 where he excelled in math. He was an avid reader always eager to obtain the latest release of his favorite western author. For many years Charles owned and operated a trucking business which took him thousands of miles hauling cattle, hay, or whatever was ordered. After retiring from his trucking business he worked in the logging and lumber field for many years where he was affectionately known as the "Woodman." In later years he could be found in his woodworking shop where he made many beautiful pieces of furniture which was usually given to a family member. Charles volunteered for many years at the Mason County Fair bringing in all the logs and equipment for the crosscut sawing and wood splitting competition. He enjoyed his time there as much as the contestants. He will be missed in so many ways by those who loved him.
