Brian Keith McCoy answered the call to eternal life on September 26, 2024, in Huntington, West Virginia at the age of 60 after discovering late-stage pancreatic cancer.

Born to Glen and Linda (née Kendrick) McCoy on May 25, 1964, Brian led a blessed and joyous life that began in the rural town of Leon, West Virginia, situated along the Kanawha River. He graduated from Point Pleasant High School in 1982 before completing his training as an electronics technician at the National Institute of Technology in 1984.

The following year in 1985, Brian met the love of his life, Terri Jarvis, in St. Albans, West Virginia. Brian and Terri married on April 23, 1988, and brought two sons into the world. In his later years he opened his home and heart to three foster teenagers, quickly becoming embraced as ‘Dad’ once again.

Brian became known for his witty, playful sarcasm that stirred laughter and his encyclical foraging knowledge. He could spout the name of any tree, wildflower, or herb, their medicinal benefits, and likewise identify poisonous and edible species. He took pleasure in playing chess with his family, embarking on hunting and fishing outings, collecting guns, and above all else enacting his role as loving husband and father.

To those who had the privilege of knowing him, he will forever be a testament to the power of an indomitable spirit infused with endless love and faith in Christ, our Savior. He will be missed and remembered by his birth family, religious family at Mercy’s Mission Church in Long Bottom, Ohio, numerous friends, cherished coworkers at Tri-River Transit, and the caring staff of Emogene Hospice House in Huntington, WV.

Brian was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of thirty-six years, Terri McCoy of Leon, WV; sons Joshua McCoy of Leon, WV and Christopher and his wife, Vivian (b. Alexandra, née Griffin) McCoy of Louisville, KY; foster daughters: Angel Shelton of Point Pleasant, WV, Jayde Rice of Point Pleasant, WV, MacKenzie Rhodes of Point Pleasant, WV; step-granddaughter Kairi Storms of Louisville, KY; and sister Teresa McCoy of Merida, Mexico.

Brian’s family requests that you thank God for the gift of his life, remember that he loved you, and, please, pray for him. Visitation will be on Monday, September 30, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the 6:00 p.m. funeral service at Deal Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, West Virginia.
