Bernard E. Burcham, 92, of Point Pleasant, WV, went home to be with the Lord while at the VA Hospital in Huntington, WV, Friday, March 9, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 1, 1925, in Athalia OH, (Lawrence County), a son to the late Roy Burcham and Helen Singer Burcham. He was a maintenance supervisor at Kaiser Aluminum where he retired in 1983, and the Century Aluminum Plant, where he retired in 1990. He worked for both companies combined for over 45 years.

Brother Burcham graduated high school in 1942, and then was called to service in 1944, where he served his country honorably during WW II. He served in the C.B.I. theater where he was awarded the Purple Heart for bravery. He is a life member of Disable American Veterans and the American Legion. He became a member of the Proctorville Minturn Lodge #550 AF & AM on June 24, 1954, was demitted to Point Pleasant Minturn Lodge #19 in 1961 and joined the Royal Arch Masons #7 and Franklin Commandery #17 Point Pleasant in 1961. He served twice as High Priest of R.A.M. as well as Eminent Commander of Franklin Commandery. He is a member of the Grand Conventionof Annointed High Priests of West Virginia. He is a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #75 in Point Pleasant where he served the O.E.S. Grand Chapter of West Virginia for five years on the Home Board of Governors as well as on the Board of Trustees and Finance and Ways and Means. He served on the Advisory Board of the International Order of the Rainbow Girls, and was awarded the Rainbow Grand Cross of Color in 1967, and he is also a former Kentucky Colonel.

In April 1975, Brother Burcham became a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies of Charleston and is a member of the Temple Aides since its beginning, and is now serving as Lieutenant of the 3rd Platoon. He is Sub Master in the 27th Degree, and was Degree Master of the 17th Degree. In 1983 the Supreme Council awarded him the rank of Knight Commander Court of Honor and was coronetted a 33 degree Inspector General Honory in October 1995. Brother Burcham is a member of Beni Kedem Shrine. He is also a member of the Legion of Honor, where he served as Commander in 1984 and holds a membership in the Royal Order of Scottland. He is a long time member of Trinity U.M. Church in Point Pleasant where he served as usher.

Brother Burcham is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Helen Burcham; his loving wife who passed in 1990, Mary M. Burcham; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Nibert who passed in February 2013.

He is survived by his loving daughters, Linda Sue Nelson, and Berna Jean Darby; two son-in-laws, five grandsons, one granddaughter, two great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, special friend Helen Plants, and many other extended family, friends, and neighbors. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held at Deal Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, WV, Saturday, March 17, 2018, at 1 PM, with Rev. James Kelly officiating. Entombment will follow in the Rome-Proctorville Cemetery in Proctorville, OH. Friends may visit the family at the funeral home from 12-1 PM prior to the service.
