Marjorie Ghloe Hanlon
(June 14, 1927 - July 4, 2013)
Marjorie Ghloe Treadway Hanlon, born on June 14, 1927 left this world to be with the Lord on July 4, 2013. For the past 11 years she lived in Allen, Texas.
She graduated from Palestine Pioneer High School in Palestine, Illinois. After high school she attended Asbury College in Wilmore, KY, where she not only obtained a bachelor's degree but also met and married the love of her life, James Keith Hanlon. After completing their bachelor degree's at Asbury, Marjorie persued a master's degree in child evangelism while Keith studied at Drew Seminary in New Jersey. Together they served the Lord at various churches in New York, New Jersey, and West Virginia until they felt the Lord's call to serve the island of Haiti from 1961-1968. Keith and Marjorie ministered to the Haitian people, spreading the good news of the Gospel. In 1968 Marjorie and her family returned to West Virginia where she and Keith began teaching at a local elementary school. In the 1970's Marjorie was hired as one of the first teachers at Gallia Christian School in Gallia County, Ohio.
Marjorie was a member of "Aglow" a woman's ministry. She also founded Flame Fellowship in WV, the first chapter being in Point Pleasant in 1983, and Marjorie served as the ministry's President until she resigned due to her deteriorating health. She was also a member of the Fisherman's Net Ministries. She also founded the jail and nursing home ministries in Point Pleasant, WV.
In addition to her love of serving, she was also known for her love of traveling. She traveled to many foreign countries as a missionary including Israel, China, Nigeria, Phillipines, and Hong Kong.
Marjorie is survived by her six children: Dr. James K. Hanlon of Morehead, KY, Dwight (Beth) Hanlon of Allen, TX, Steven E. (Sharon) Hanlon of Allen, TX, Mona (James) Wagner of Point Pleasant, WV, Martha (Paris) Browning of Point Pleasant, WV, and Mary (JP) Halstead of Letart, WV, and sisters Bertha Munton and Geneva Munton, as well as twelve grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband James of 42 years, and her brothers Earl, Doug, Paul, Warren, and sister Mildred.
Funeral services will be held at the Deal Funeral Home in Point Pleasant on Monday, July 8, 2013, at 3 PM, with Rev. Annetta Durst officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Letart, WV. Friends may visit the family at the funeral home on Monday from 1-3 PM prior to the service.
